My Interests
I have always been a Car Guy..What is a car guy? In my opinion, there are many types of car guys. Some like the looks of a shiny new car with its gleaming wheels. Some like the HP rating and how cool the exhaust sounds when you’re leaving the stoplight. Others like the style and handling.
There are Chevy Guys, Ford Guys & Mopar Guys… that’s the big three Automakers that I am referring to. Bottom line made in the USA!
My addiction is GM…My Favorite are the three C’S…. Chevelle, Camaro, and Corvette. At one time or another, I have had them all and still retain a Chevelle and a couple of Corvettes. Here is a sneak peek into my garage at some of my babies…
Chevelle ‘72 “Heavy Chevy”
The Chevelle is a 1972 “Heavy Chevy.” 100% re-stored, numbers matching, big block 402 with a Muncie 4-speed pushing it down the road. This car was only built mid-year in ‘71 and ended in ‘72. GM was trying to boast their sales with this added to its line from the SS.
2008 427 ZO6 Corvette
2008 Limited Edition 427 ZO6 Corvette, Wil Cooksey signed Limited Edition car # 422 out of 505 built, of which ONLY 427 could be sold in the USA and Canada. The remaining 78 went overseas. This car was produced with the retiring of the plant manager at Bowling Green, Kentucky where the Corvette is born. The ZO6 has a unique body structure designed for optimum stiffness and light weight. The ZO6 tips the scales at a mere 3,175 pounds. This combination delivers 0-60 MPH performance of 3.7 seconds in first gear, quarter mile of 11.7 seconds at 125 MPH and a top speed of 198 MPH.
2009 Cyber Gray ZO6 Corvette
The last is a 2009 Cyber Gray ZO6 Corvette. This car has it all. Packing under the hood 505 HP with the Legendary 427 all Aluminum small block, with a 6-speed close ratio tranny.
Speed and handling is make this car one of the finest Corvettes GM has produced in a long time.
So when, and if, you’re in the neighborhood and want to know where to find the best roads to drive on, whether you’re taking a drive through Spearfish Canyon or dropping down through the Southern Hills, give me a call or swing by the office. I will try to help you navigate through the Hills or just talk cars.
Whatever kind of car you have or have ever wanted to own, it will be special to you and only you and that’s when you know you are a Car Guy.
Thanks for spending some time with me in my garage. Come back anytime…
Don’t forget the “Wave”,
Jim
Lets Tee One Up
If you are coming to western South Dakota to look for property or just on a vacation and would like to get a round of golf in, here are a few of my favorite courses…
My 1st choice is Golf Club at Red Rock in Rapid City.
Golf Digest rated this course as the #1 Public Golf Course in 2009.
Rolling fairways, dramatic elevation changes, links-style bunkers and USGA specification greens characterize the 7,000-yd, par-72 championship golf course at the Golf Club at Red Rock in Rapid City, South Dakota.
With a minimum of four tee placements per hole, players of all levels can enjoy a challenging and exhilarating world-class golf experience at the Golf Club at Red Rock. Embedded in the Black Hills terrain, the course features lush fairways, surrounded by native fescue grasses and tall ponderosa pine trees.
My 2nd choice: Hart Ranch. Located 8 miles south of Rapid City on Hwy 79, it’s a great 18 hole course with plush fairways and challenging pin placement. The rates are around $55.00 with a cart for 18 holes of play. Hart Ranch Golf Course is what Black Hills Golf is all about. Quiet, secluded, a great 18-hole golf challenge.
My 3rd choice: Meadowbrook Golf Course, an 18 Hole Championship Facility, is located at the foot of the beautiful Black Hills of Western South Dakota at 3625 Jackson Blvd. Designed in the mid 1970’s, by David Gill and Associates, Meadowbrook is traditional in its layout. At over 7,100 yards in total length, the course is a very formidable challenge for even the best of players and at the same time affords the weekend enthusiast a wonderful experience in golf.
Rapid Creek flows through the course and comes into play on five of the eighteen holes. The large, undulating greens are very well protected by more than 60 bunkers.
My 4th choice: Spearfish Country Club. The front 9 was built in the 1920’s. Large trees of the encroaching Black Hills and numerous sand bunkers guard the small greens that the front 9 offers.
The back 9 was built in the 1980’s. It is more open with wider fairways but still very challenging for the average golfer. Last time I played, the rate was around $60.00 with cart.
My 5th choice: Elkhorn Ridge Golf Course, located at exit 17 Spearfish. It is a new course and when it matures, it’s going to be a very challenging course. Plenty of elevations, extra large and sloping greens. Just a tough course to play with 4 tee boxes for all ages.
